The Chairman, National Peace Commission, (NPC), General Abdulsalam Abubakar, (rtd) has enjoined the people of Ekiti State to live up to the ideals of integrity and honour for free, fair and credible election on 18th June,2022 in the state.
Abubakar who was represented by the convener, National Peace Committee, Most Reverend Matthew Kukah, at the signing of the Peace Accord by Ekiti State governorship candidates called on INEC officials to conduct free and credible election in Ekiti state.
He noted that citizens must conduct themselves orderly while INEC officials must ensure perfect voting system.
At the ceremony in Ado-Ekiti the state capital , Governorship candidates of APC, SDP, ADC, ADP, NNPP, APP, NRM, PRP, ZLP, APGA signed the accord agreement andAPC, SDP, ADC, ADP, NNPP, APP, NRM, PRP, ZLP, APGA while PDP YPP and three others where absent at the ceremony.
The Chairman, called on residents in the state to take advantage of the election period to vote and install leaders of their choice.
According to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the intervention of NPC has contributed in no small measure for peace in the country.
Prof. Yakubu, said no credible election can be achieved in a violent atomsphere, saying , the votes of Ekiti people would count.
In his remarks, the chairman, Ekiti State Council of traditional rulers, Oba Ayodele Adejuwon, the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, said Obas in the state would not tolerate any bloodshed during the poll, calling on Ekiti people to vote without violence.
