The 1999–2005 alumni set of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, on Friday, December 26, 2025, formally commenced activities marking its 20th anniversary with a health talk and medical outreach aimed at promoting healthy living among members.
Speaking at the event, the resource person, nurse Olowoyeye Ayodele, delivered an enlightening lecture on hypertension, describing it as a “silent but deadly ailment” that requires urgent and continuous attention. He identified several causes of hypertension, including excessive salt intake, consumption of junk foods, poor stress management, genetic factors, smoking, alcohol intake, obesity and substance abuse among others.
Mr. Olowoyeye emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups for early detection, listing warning signs such as severe headaches, nose bleeding, dizziness, chest pain, facial flushing, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, restlessness, drowsiness and blurred vision. He warned that untreated hypertension could result in coma, heart failure, kidney failure and heart attack.

He advised members to adopt a healthy lifestyle through proper diet, adequate water intake of at least three litres daily, moderate consumption of fruits, avoidance of saturated fats and oily foods, effective management of underlying health conditions, stress control and total abstinence from alcohol. While responding to questions, the nurse cautioned against the use of herbal remedies for treating hypertension, citing dosage challenges, and stressed that professional medical consultation remains the safest option for healthy living.
As part of the outreach, members of the alumni set benefited from free medical screenings, including blood pressure checks, random blood sugar tests and malaria parasite examinations.
Earlier in his opening address, the President of the set, Mr. Akinyemi Olaleye Omotunde, expressed appreciation to members for their unwavering support and commitment to giving back to their alma mater. He underscored the value of good health, urging all members to participate fully in the medical tests, noting that “health is wealth.”
Mr. Akinyemi recalled that the first phase of the 20th anniversary celebration began in June, 2025 with the payment of NECO fees for 50 students of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, while he said the second phase was designed to focus on the wellbeing of members. According to him, the anniversary provides an opportunity “to reunite, rejuvenate, relax, enjoy and reconnect.”
He disclosed that several activities have been lined up to further strengthen bonds among members, including indoor games, a novelty football match at Ball and Ball pitch, a dinner and a thanksgiving service at St. Emmanuel Anglican Church, Okesa, Ado Ekiti scheduled for Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The president concluded that the 20th anniversary celebration is more than a reunion, describing it as a reaffirmation of friendship, growth and shared purpose, and encouraged members to use the occasion to reconnect, reminisce and rejoice together.
