A political group under the banner of Ekiti North Progressive Youth Alliance(EKNPYA), has opposed alleged underhand tactics by desperate politicians to cede the senatorial tickets to the current occupants of the seats, despite abysmal performances.
Specifically, the group said attempt to perpetuate the Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Cyril Fasuyi in office, and as the sole candidate for the All Progressives Congress against democratic practices will be resisted at all cost.
The group insisted that consensus arrangement being clandestinely cobbled for the Senator and others adjudged to have underperformed by some political heavyweights through suppression of other aspirants, was a political fraud, which would be wholesomely rejected by the voters.
The opposition was contained in a statement signed by the group’s Coordinator, Com. Tayelolu Ajayi, and made available to journalists in Ido Ekiti, headquarters of the district, on Thursday.
Ajayi posited that the recent attempts being contrived by some party leaders to canonize Senator Fasuyi as a high-performing first-timer deserving of automatic return to the Red Chamber, was not only antidemocratic, but delusional.
To entrench the doctrines of justice, equity and fairplay in the Ekiti North’s political equation, the group stated that Ikole Local Government should be allowed to present a candidate for the seat, rather than angling on recycled leadership that often breeds mediocrity and hatred.
Dissecting the performance rating of Senator Fasuyi, the group, said provision of 40 federal employments, distribution of a few laptops, payment of JAMB fees to a few, installation of streetlights,
and distribution of fertilizers to a handful of farmers, were not suffice to accord any national assembly member excellent delivery.
“”In a country where first-time legislators are setting trail-blazing standards, initiating life-changing programmes, and leaving undeniable footprints across their constituencies, the bar has been raised. Representation is no longer about presence; it is about performance.
“Against this backdrop, one must ask: Is this truly the best Ekiti North can boast of after three years in the Senate? Is this the “gold standard” being referenced? This calls for deep introspection.
“Ekiti North comprises five vibrant local governments, Ikole, Oye, Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemej. Rich in human and natural resources, brimming with potential. Yet, the senatorial seat, one of the most powerful platforms for development and influence, has remained largely underutilized. For close to three years, the impact has been minimal, scattered, and far from transformative.

Strategic infrastructure projects,
Sustainable empowerment programs with measurable scale
, Industrial and agricultural value-chain development, Institutional presence that attracts federal investments, bold legislative advocacy translating into real benefits for constituents.
“If this is indeed the peak of what can be achieved from such a dignified and strategic office, then perhaps it is time for a rethink. Leadership is not a birthright; it is a responsibility. And when capacity falls short of expectation, the honorable path is to step aside and allow fresh energy, broader vision, and proven competence to take the reign”.
The group advised Ekiti North to rise above the threshold of mediocrity and embrace excellence, saying the senatorial district is blessed with sound minds, seasoned professionals, who have distinguished themselves in the private sector and possess the competence, exposure, and capacity to deliver meaningful development.
“At this critical juncture, equity, fairness, and strategic thinking must guide our decisions. It is time to give deliberate consideration to Ikole Local Government. By every standard of balance and justice, Ikole deserves a fair shot at the senatorial seat.
“Ikole as the largest local government in Ekiti North – and second only to Ado in the entire state; it is both surprising and unjust that it has not produced a Senator since the return to democracy. This longstanding imbalance must now be addressed in the interest of unity, inclusiveness, and sustainable progress.
“Ekiti North deserves more.
Our people deserve better. 2027 must not be about recycling mediocrity; it must be about redefining excellence”.
