The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti, Prof Abayomi Fasina said his administration has increased the frontiers of learning which
offers world-class education that equips students with the required knowledge and skills to thrive in a competitive world.
The Vice Chancellor hinted that the sterling performances of the institution has not only attracted thousands of students to the university, but had improved socio- economic activities of neighbouring communities of the institution.
Prof Fasina disclosed this at a news conference held on Monday at the school premises to commence the 9th convocation of 8,444 students.
Giving the breakdown of the graduating students, Prof. Fasina said 8191 undergraduates and 253 post graduate students will be awarded degrees on Saturday. According to him “177 students bagged first class, 3466 second class upper, 831 , 3rd class with 2 passes while 38 Phd, 211 MSC/ MBA and 4 PGD students. “As part of this convocation, a total of 8,444 students will receive their degrees, including those from undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. This marks the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance, and I am proud of each of our graduands who will join the ranks of FUOYE alumni and go on to make a mark in their various fields”.
The Vice Chancellor who attributed the giant strides of his administration to the concerted efforts of his staff who keyed into his vision of turning FUOYE to a world-class university.
According to Prof Fasina, “An institution’s physical infrastructure is essential for fostering an environment of learning, creativity, and collaboration. FUOYE has seen an impressive expansion of its facilities during my tenure. We have successfully constructed over 30 new lecture halls, state-of-the-art laboratories, and office spaces across both Oye and Ikole campuses.
Significant accomplishments include the completion of the Fasina Conference Centre, a versatile space designed to host academic conferences and professional events, made possible through the generous contributions of friends of Fasina. Additionally, we have successfully completed major structures such as the Faculty of Law Building, Faculty of Education Building, and several new lecture theatres—all integral to our continuous efforts to foster a dynamic and conducive learning environment”.
Furthermore, the ongoing construction of hostels, sports facilities, and a new Senate Building, alongside major roadworks and landscaping, underscore our commitment to developing a visually appealing, functional, and sustainable campus. Notably, our hostels are equipped with solar power, reinforcing our dedication to renewable energy and environmental sustainability”
Adding that the institution has gained international recognition via research. “FUOYE has made remarkable progress in the realm of research, fostering a culture that values inquiry, innovation, and excellence. Under this administration, our institution has published over 2,169 documents in reputable international journals, positioning FUOYE as a significant player in the global academic community.”
While assuring that his administration would not relent on his oars, saying” I am committed to deepening our research impact, expanding our infrastructure, and providing our students with the best possible academic experience. We
will continue to invest in cutting-edge technology, foster international partnerships, and ensure that our graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow”.
