The Chairman of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Dele Omoleye has urged Nigerians to continue to support widows of fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the unity and peace of Nigeria.
Omoleye made the disclosure during the laying of wreath to commemorate Armed forces and remembrance day in honour of the fallen heroes held in Ido-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ido/Osi local government on Wednesday.
Omoleye who led dignitaries to include traditional rulers in the local government to lay the wreaths in honor of the Nation’s fallen heroes as part of the grand finale of a week long activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emphasised the need for government at all levels to be proactive and ensure the families of the fallen heroes are not deprived of some basic needs to better their lots.
He also emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in supporting the armed forces and the families of soldiers who died in active service to the country, considering the role they played in sustaining peace and unity of the nation.
The council boss saluted the bravery and gallantry of the Nigeria armed forces in the face of adversities and security challenges, hence the government’s resolve to continue assisting the families of the fallen heroes.
The armed forces remembrance day was also attended by serving and retired soldiers as well as widows of the personnel who paid the supreme prices in the local government area.
The armed forces remembrance day is observed to celebrate the Nigerian armed forces and honour veterans of the Nigerian civil war as well as those still serving at various peace operations nationally and internationally.
