The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has criticized president Tinubu’s approach to economic policies and its failure to offer credible explanations to Nigerians.
The former CBN Governor who said he was not willing to give insights that would ameliorate the economic challenges bedeviling Nigeria, hinged his decision on strained relationships between him and the government.
Emir of Kano spoke on Wednesday at the 21st anniversary of Fawehinmi in Lagos. He said “To be honest, I can stand here today and give a few points that explain, perhaps, what we are going through, how it was totally predictable and maybe avoidable, but I’m not going to do that
I have chosen not to speak about the economy and the report or even explain anything because, if I speak, it is going to help the government, and I don’t want to help the government. I don’t want to help this government.
“They are my friends, but if they don’t behave like friends, I won’t behave like a friend. They don’t even have people with credibility who can come and explain what they are doing. I’m not going to help. I’m not going to discuss it. Let them come and explain to Nigerians why the policies that are being pursued are being pursued.“
He attributed his decision to a reluctance to assist the government, expressing dissatisfaction with the administration’s conduct.
