A former National Assembly lawmaker in Ekiti State, Congressman Bimbo Daramola, has announced plans to launch a monthly health and fitness initiative tagged “The BAOWalk.”
The event, which aims to promote healthy living among residents, is set to kick off in February 2025 in Ikole Local Government Area.
Daramola, who represented the Oye/Ikole constituency at the National Assembly from 2011 to 2015, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Friday.
He explained that the fitness walk would cover a distance of 10 to 16 kilometers and is designed to encourage citizens to adopt a proactive approach to their health.
The initiative aligns with the health-focused efforts of the BAO administration and will be replicated in other local government areas across the state.
According to Daramola, “The BAOWalk is not just about exercise; it’s about institutionalizing the importance of preventive healthcare. People need to understand that adopting healthy habits can reduce reliance on hospitals for treatment.”
He revealed that arrangements had been made to accommodate over 300 participants in the first edition of the walk, with expectations of increased participation in subsequent months.
Daramola further highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, emphasizing that it could ease the financial burden on government healthcare resources. by fostering a culture of fitness and wellness, the program aims to reduce preventable illnesses and promote a healthier, more active lifestyle among Ekiti residents.
The former lawmaker called on citizens to embrace the program, describing it as a practical and cost-effective way to improve their overall well-being.
He assured participants of adequate planning and safety measures for the walk, which is set to become a recurring event in the state.
“The BAOWalk is more than a fitness activity; it’s a movement to encourage everyone to take charge of their health,” Daramola stated. “This initiative will not only bring people together but also remind us that health is wealth.”
The launch of “The BAOWalk” signals a new chapter in community-driven health promotion in Ekiti State, offering residents a sustainable path toward improved physical and mental well-being.
