The Vice Chancellor Federal University of Oye Ekiti, Prof Abayomi Fasina has said 3281 students of the institution have benefitted from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiated by the Federal Government.
The VC explained that
# 305,757,500 was received by the students. He appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the initiative and TETFUND interventions which he said had helped the institution meet some of its numerous needs.
Prof. Fasina disclosed this at a news conference heralding the 9th convocation of the institution, saying, access to education is the bedrock of development.
Prof Fasina announced that 8444 graduates will be conferred with first and second Degree awards on Saturday, 22 February, adding that 177 made first class while 3466 made second class upper and 3715 second class lower. “As part of this convocation, a total of 8,444 students will receive their degrees, including those from undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. This marks the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance, and I am proud of each of our graduates who will join the ranks of FUOYE alumni and go on to make a mark in their various fields”
The convocation Lecture will be taken by Architect Sonny Sylva Echono, OON, FNAI, Executive Secretary, TETFUND, Abuja (9:00 AM). Award of Bachelor’s Degrees, Diplomas & Prizes will take place at (Faculties of Education and Science) while Award of Postgraduate Diplomas & Conferment of Honorary Degrees at the 1,000-Seater Auditorium, Oye Campus (12:00 PM).
As part of the convocation ceremony, the VC said the institution will commission 8 projects already completed to include: 1,000 seater auditorium, professorial complex, Faculty of Law complex, Innovation Laboratory, 3-In-1 Faculty of Science Laboratory, Fasina Conference Centre
The VC further said the institution will confer Honorary Degrees (Honoris Causa) on four individuals who have made great impacts and contributions to their fields. The personalities are:
*Senator Kanu Godwin Agabi, CON, SAN – Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation.
*Chief Christopher Adebayo Ojo, SAN, FCI, CON – Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation
*Mr. Segun Alebiosu, Managing Director, First Bank of Nigeria
*Dr. Allen Onyema – Chairman, Air peace Airline.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that his administration has executed 156 projects in all the campuses apart from academic excellence that have given the institution good image in the global world . While appreciating the staff and students of the institution for their dedication and support for the great feat,
Prof. Fasina reiterated his commitment to further put the institution in a world map.
