The Ekiti State Government has sealed a toilet owned by Mr. Mallam Wudili in Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti for discharging faecal waste into public drainage.
A routine sanitary inspection of the Environmental Health Officers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources sealed the toilet to prevent outbreak of diseases .
Also, the ministry is currently investigating a company identified as Mr. Packer who was alleged to have discharged faecal waste along Ikere Road, opposite Ajayi Polytechnic, last week .
Responding, the commissioner for
Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, condemned the act, stressing that government would not tolerate any act capable of endangering public health and environmental safety.
She warned Ekiti residents and business owners to comply with sanitation laws, saying, if any one is caught, such person would face strict penalties in accordance with the state’s environmental regulations.
“This reckless act of environmental pollution will not be tolerated, the government is committed to ensuring that residents live in a clean and healthy environment. I urge you to report anyone who violates environmental laws to appropriate authorities.
