Over five hundred houses were blown off and Properties worth half a billion naira were destroyed in Ilupeju Ekiti by rainstorm on Tuesday Evening , as residents called on well meaning Nigerians; Federal and Ekiti state Governments to help
salvage the wanton destructions.
Ekiti State RAAMP Coordinator, Hon Sunday Adunmo, Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, HRM Oba Sunday Awe AKINGBADE and the Executive Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Area, Ilupeju Ekiti, Hon Olusola Michael Oniyelu during on the spot assessment , described the incident as a wanton destruction that need urgent attention of government and spirited indigenes of the town.
The Ekiti state RAAMP Coordinator who is an illustrious son of Ilupeju Ekiti called on Ekiti residents to adopt planting of trees as a measure to prevent windstorm when it rains, saying, it’s natural to rain and atimes accompany with heavy wind.
While calling on National Emergency Management Agency and Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency to help the affected residents to put their houses in order, he also called on Ilupeju sons and daughters to come to the aid of the affected people, adding that planting of trees would prevent future occurrence.
The Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti who said the damage was too much for the community to bear, called on the Ekiti state government to assist the affected people. According to the monarch, it’s quite unfortunate that the heavy downpour of yesterday caused a lot of havoc to my subjects, many of their buildings were blown off, I have lost count as we tour all the streets that the rainfall affected. My passionate appeal is that the government should come to our aid. The monarch stated.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Area, Ilupeju Ekiti, Hon Olusola Michael Oniyelu said the damage was beyond the control of the LCDA, saying documentation has been done to be forwarded to Ekiti state Government for prompt attention.
While on the inspection tour, Hon Oniyelu who was pained by the havoc the rainstorm caused The Apostolic Church, OKEJI Street, billed to be roofed today (Wednesday) was completely pulled down, the chairman promised to rebuild the church and fix ecological problem affecting the school.
About five churches, Menara market, schools, mosque and residential buildings were blown off while some buildings under construction and fences were pulled down by the rain . Some of the affected residents were seen moving their Properties out of the damaged buildings while some who have no place to stay were crying for refuge.
Nearly all the streets in Ilupeju Ekiti were affected.
