Chairman of Moba Local Government Area, Hon. Bamidele Fadugba, has launched a grassroots campaign urging residents to reject substance abuse and embrace healthier and productive lifestyles.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of the “Say No to Drug Abuse” campaign held at the Moba Local Government Secretariat, Otun-Ekiti, Hon. Fadugba described drug abuse as a silent destroyer of dreams, fuelling crime, violence and social instability.
He appealed to youths and adults alike to steer clear of illicit drugs and make conscious choices that promote personal fulfilment and community development.
“Drug abuse robs our people of their future, cripples families and weakens the very fabric of our society. We must all rise to defeat this scourge. Let us choose health over harm, purpose over addiction, and together build a safer and stronger Moba,” Fadugba declared.
He again praised the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for creating employment opportunities and empowering artisans, saying these efforts provide viable alternatives that discourage anti-social behaviours.
“We in Moba Local Government must complement Governor Oyebanji’s work by amplifying the campaign against drug abuse in every corner of our society,” the chairman added.
Echoing the chairman’s concern, the Igogo-Ekiti Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Fawole Olayemi, outlined the far-reaching dangers of substance abuse, linking drug misuse to crimes such as insurgency, armed robbery, rape, thuggery and even premature death.
Mr. Olayemi commended Hon. Fadugba for consistently supporting NDLEA’s operations in Moba, stressing that the agency under its national chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.) has intensified the nationwide campaign to eradicate drug-related crimes.
Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to Moba Local Government, Alhaji Ayantoye Ibrahim Adebayo; Director of Works, Engr. Hakeem Abiona, Director of Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Oluwafemi Adewumi, representatives of NULGE led by their Chairman, Comrade Taiwo Adeseko, the State Team Facilitator (STF), Mr. Ajenifuja, and serving corps members in Moba Local Government.
