Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has hailed the gallantry of residents of Eleyin community in Isin Local Government Area, who recently repelled and neutralised armed criminals that invaded their town.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin over the weekend, the governor described the patriotic resistance as a bold assertion of the people’s right to live without fear or intimidation.
Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed that the Nigerian Army has now extended Operation Fansan Yamma to Kwara State in furtherance of its national mandate to strengthen internal security and safeguard communities.
“As we mount this bold resistance in moral courage against criminality, I urge that we strike the right balance so that we do not further undermine our collective well-being, which violent protests may amount to. Together, we will ensure that our communities are rid of all criminal elements as security forces work with local vigilantes to strengthen public safety,” the governor said.
He commended the joint efforts of vigilantes in Isin and Irepodun LGAs, stressing that the government will continue to back security agencies and community volunteers in defending the people.
While applauding their bravery, the governor expressed sadness over the death of a vigilante member, Mr. Saheed Adeshina, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the encounter. He extended condolences to his family and announced an immediate ₦10 million support package for them.
“Not only will the government replace the motorcycles lost in the encounter, but it will also double down on its logistic support for the security forces and the local vigilantes across the state,” AbdulRazaq added.
The governor maintained that the reported mass neutralisation of the criminals was a clear statement that Kwarans will not tolerate any form of provocation or threat to public safety.
