A coalition of Ekiti indigenes in the diaspora under the aegis of the Continental Coalition of Ekiti in Diaspora (COCOED) has raised alarm over what it described as “full-blown political crises” rocking Ekiti State, saying the situation has stifled good governance and hindered community development.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, monitored by PRECISE NEWS, the spokesman of the coalition, Mr. Ayodele Daini from the Canada chapter, disclosed that COCOED has resolved to step into the state’s political landscape to “save Ekiti from imminent collapse.”
According to him, members of the coalition spread across the United Kingdom, Canada, Asia, Australia, and the United States convened an emergency virtual meeting where they unanimously decided to intervene in Ekiti’s politics.
“We cannot continue to fold our arms and watch Ekiti rot away in endless crises. The daily confusion across political parties has made the dividends of democracy a mirage. Enough is enough,” Daini declared.
Daini explained that after extensive deliberations and a thorough assessment of the state’s political actors, the coalition identified Prince Dr. Funso Ayeni (PhD) as the most credible, experienced, and untainted figure capable of rescuing the state.
He described Ayeni as “a formidable, educated, and unbiased political leader who embodies the hope of restoring sanity and progress in Ekiti State.”
As part of their intervention, the coalition mandated Mr. Daini to travel down from Canada to Abuja, where he officially purchased the PDP governorship nomination form on behalf of Dr. Ayeni.
The group further appealed to traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and stakeholders in Ekiti to prevail on Dr. Ayeni to accept the call to run for governor in the upcoming election. “We are ready to use our resources where necessary to support this rescue mission. Ekiti cannot continue like this. Dr. Ayeni represents a fresh start for our people,” the group affirmed.
COCOED emphasized that its decision is not partisan politicking but a genuine effort to restore governance, unity, and development in Ekiti State.
