A frontline governorship hopeful in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing lack of direction and internal wrangling within the party.
In a statement issued by his media office in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Fayose expressed disappointment over what he described as the absence of purposeful leadership at the national level of the PDP, coupled with incessant disputes among its leaders.
“I am using this occasion to formally announce my decision, and that of my teeming supporters, to resign our membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Though the decision was not an easy one for us as stakeholders in Ekiti State, the current state of affairs within the party left us with no choice,” the statement read.
He accused the PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Illyasu Damagum, and the National Secretary of allegedly working in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a development he described as detrimental to the growth and survival of the PDP.
Fayose also pointed fingers at former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, whom he said should have been a rallying point for stakeholders but has instead, according to him, chosen to work against the party’s interests.
While confirming his exit from the PDP, Otunba Fayose, however, kept silent on the political platform under which he would pursue his governorship ambition, leaving speculations open about his next political move.
