President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with the Elebute family over the passing of their matriarch, Professor Oyinade Elebute, who died on September 13 at the age of 91.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late scholar and physician as a trailblazer whose contributions to medicine and healthcare in Nigeria will remain indelible.
Professor Elebute, a former professor of Physiology at the University of Lagos, co-founded Hygeia Nigeria Limited, Lagoon Hospitals, and Hygeia HMO, pioneering modern private healthcare services in the country.
President Tinubu praised her lifetime of service to humanity, noting that she not only advanced medical practice but also trained generations of health professionals.
“Nigeria has lost a trailblazer. Her passion for science and medicine will continue to inspire many generations. The nation is profoundly grateful to role models such as Prof. Oyinade Elebute, who demonstrated that women and girls can succeed with the right education and opportunities,” the President stated.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to comfort the Elebute family and all who mourn her passing.
