The Executive Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Area, Ilupeju Ekiti (LCDA), Hon. Olusola Michael Oniyelu, has distributed palm seedlings to 40 farmers across the four wards of the council area.
distributing the seedlings on Tuesday at the LCDA secretariat, Hon. Oniyelu explained that ten farmers were selected from each ward—comprising Ilupeju Ward 1, Ilupeju Ward 2, Osin/Itapa Ward, and Omu/Ijelu Ward. He said the initiative was aimed at empowering farmers, boosting agriculture, and improving livelihoods in the council area.
The chairman stressed that the programme aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s agricultural revolution agenda, assuring that more seedlings would be provided in subsequent phases for those not captured in the first round.
“I am committed to serving the people of Ifeloju LCDA with utmost good faith. Agriculture will continue to be a key focus in driving rural development and economic prosperity,” Oniyelu stated.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr.Olajobi and Chief Omodejo Jimoh commended the chairman for the timely intervention that would greatly enhance their livelihoods.
Also, Hon. Olumide, a community leader from Osin/Itapa Ward, applauded Oniyelu for his “giant strides” since assuming office and urged the state government to recognize his performance. He further called on the Ekiti State House of Assembly to consider legislation to increase the salaries of local government councillors, noting their critical roles as the closest representatives to the grassroots.
The event was attended by community leaders, the Vice Chairman, Secretary, councillors, farmers, and other political stakeholders, all of whom lauded the initiative as a step toward agricultural sustainability and rural development in Ifeloju LCDA.
