The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has officially handed over the leadership of the Commission to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu as Acting Chairman.
The handover, which took place on Tuesday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, marks the end of Professor Yakubu’s two-term, ten-year tenure as the nation’s chief electoral umpire.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu, the oldest serving National Commissioner at INEC, will oversee the affairs of the Commission in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive chairman.
In his brief remarks, Professor Yakubu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation and commended the Commission’s staff for their dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
