The Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services in collaboration with MSI Reproductive Choices has organised a sensitization campaign in Ekiti State to mark this year’s World Contraception Day.
The theme for the year 2025 being “A choice for all, agency, intention, access” emphasized that every individual has the freedom to protect their reproductive health, plan their families and achieve their potential.
The Family Planning Coordinator and Health Promotion Officer, Dr Busayo Ige stated that the day aims to ensure every pregnancy is wanted and empower individuals to informed choices regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
Dr Ige disclosed that Family Planning services were readily made available free of charge by Ekiti State Government in all public health facilities across the state including Tertiary, Secondary and Primary Health Centres in order to ensure that every woman has access without any financial burden.
While highlighting some of the benefits of proper use of contraception, the family planning coordinator explained that the step would not only guarantee bodily autonomy but would also open doors for educational and career opportunities.
“Sensitizing people on the proper use of contraception would not only foster a culture of empowerment through education and open dialogue, but will as well address the persistent barriers that many face in accessing reproductive health services”. She hinted.
She charges residents to embrace reliable family planning methods to enjoy its numerous benefits such as prevention of unintended pregnancies, reduction of abortion, improving maternal and child health and supporting economic growth among others.
