The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated his commitment to unity, peace, and inclusive governance, declaring that he harbours no grudges against anyone despite political differences or criticisms of his administration.
Governor Oyebanji made this known on Sunday during a special thanksgiving service held at Emmanuel Cathedral Church, Ado-Ekiti, to mark the third anniversary of his administration. The event also witnessed a rare convergence of former Ekiti State governors, who unanimously described Oyebanji as a unifier and pledged their full support for his re-election in 2026.
The Governor, while addressing the congregation, quoted extensively from Psalm 136, stressing that forgiveness and togetherness remain the foundation for peace, progress, and prosperity in Ekiti.
“By nature, I don’t bear grudges against anyone. I have forgiven those who took a different course during our party’s primary election. I use this opportunity to extend a hand of fellowship to all who genuinely seek reconciliation. I bear no grudge against anyone for pursuing their ambitions differently,” Oyebanji said.
He also thanked those offering constructive criticism of his administration, saying their feedback has helped keep his team focused.
“To those who have constructively criticized us, I say thank you. You keep us on our toes. My desire is to serve God through service to Ekiti people—faithfully, sincerely, and with the fear of God,” he added.
Oyebanji expressed gratitude to all former governors, describing them as his “benefactors and mentors.” He singled out Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Otunba Niyi Adebayo for their guidance and support, while also appreciating former Governors Segun Oni and Ayodele Fayose for their encouragement and cooperation.
In their goodwill messages, the former governors commended Oyebanji’s leadership style and performance, describing him as a bridge-builder who has united Ekiti’s political class and restored public confidence in governance.
Former Governor Segun Oni praised Oyebanji for steering Ekiti towards economic growth despite limited resources, predicting a landslide victory for him in the 2026 election.
Representing her husband, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Erelu Bisi Fayemi congratulated the Governor for consolidating the legacy of continuity and delivering impactful governance.
“You have done well with the little resources available. You have made Ekiti a respected state in Nigeria. I pray that the next election will be peaceful and victorious for you,” she said.
Former Governor Ayodele Fayose also lauded Oyebanji for promoting unity and inclusive governance.
“You have been a unifier among us. You’ve removed the spirit of division from Ekiti politics. Bear no grudge against anyone—your victory in 2026 is already sealed. You will win across all wards and local governments,” Fayose declared.
In his remarks, the first civilian Governor of the State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, commended Oyebanji for bringing all past governors together despite political differences.
“Our governor has done well. Ekiti people, let us not miss this golden opportunity. Let’s come out en masse to support him in 2026 for the good of our state,” Adebayo said.
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, reaffirmed the support of the National Assembly members from Ekiti for Oyebanji’s leadership, describing his tenure as “a pride to the state and its people.”
Delivering the homily, the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Olusola Ajayi, commended the Governor for his faithfulness to promises made to the people, citing prompt salary payments, infrastructure renewal, and inclusive governance as examples.
Preaching on the theme, “Celebrating God’s Progress as Bedrock to Testimony,” the Bishop urged the Governor to remain steadfast in his reliance on God, even in challenging times, to ensure sustained prosperity for Ekiti. He also charged members of the State Executive Council to demonstrate unwavering loyalty and dedication to the Governor’s vision.
