Senator Okechukwu Ezea, representing Enugu North, has passed away. His death was confirmed on Wednesday by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, who paid an emotional tribute to her late colleague in a post on her verified Facebook page.
Describing him as a “good, wise, and gentle man,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said Senator Ezea’s prayers supported her during some of her most challenging moments.
She wrote:
“Rest in peace, Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. You were a good man — wise and gentle. Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers. Enugu North Senatorial District, Kogi Central honors your Senator and mourns with you.”
Senator Ezea, aged 62, was a prominent political figure in Enugu State. He co-founded the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in 2013 and later emerged as the party’s governorship candidate in 2015.
In 2018, he was appointed chairman of the governing board of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, a role he held until 2022 when he resigned and joined the Labour Party. He subsequently secured the party’s senatorial ticket and was elected to represent Enugu North on February 25, 2023.
His passing marks the loss of an experienced legislator and statesman whose political journey spanned several decades.
