A former MTN staff , Mr. Bankole Ogunmiloyo, has accused the company’s Regional Manager for Kwara and Ekiti States, Mrs. Chinyere Ikechi, of making false allegations that allegedly cost him his job and damaged his reputation.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Ogunmiloyo alleged that Mrs. Ikechi wrongly accused him of harassing Miss Itua Ejaye, ,MTN Sales Representative in Ikole-Ekiti. According to him, the allegation led the agency he worked with to terminate his appointment, leaving him without a source of livelihood.
Mr. Ogunmiloyo said he decided to go public after enduring the alleged defamation in silence, insisting that the claim was fabricated and targeted at tarnishing his professional record, having worked with MTN for eighteen years without blemish. He demanded that Mrs. Ikechi issue a public apology in three national newspapers — Tribune, The Punch, and The Nation. He threatened legal action should she fail to comply.
He explained that the accusation had affected him physically, psychologically, and professionally, noting that it has hindered him from securing jobs with MTN and other agencies.
Ogunmiloyo maintained that Miss Itua, whom he was accused of harassing, remains his friend and that they enjoyed a cordial working relationship during their time together.
In an effort to verify the claims, PRECISE NEWS contacted Mrs. Ikechi, who denied knowing or ever working with Mr. Ogunmiloyo. Miss Itua, on her part, also denied any incident of harassment, stating that she had a good working relationship with the former staff.
Mr. Ogunmiloyo further revealed that he had petitioned Mrs. Ikechi at the Ekiti State Police Headquarters, Ado-Ekiti, but claimed she failed to honour the summons. He vowed to seek redress in court if the demanded apology is not tendered, stressing that he would not allow false allegations to jeopardize his reputation or his future ambition of becoming a reputable politician.
