The Executive Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ilupeju Ekiti, Hon. Olusola Michael Oniyelu, has dismissed widespread rumours of a kidnapping attempt in Ilupeju-Ekiti on Wednesday, describing the alarm as false and misleading.
Residents of Ilupeju and neighbouring communities panicked over a circulated message on social media alleging that two suspicious vehicles were parked in a compromise way attempting to kidnap
In a statement signed by the LCDA chairman, Hon. Oniyelu cleared air on the incident thus “security operatives and local hunters immediately swung into action to verify the claim. Their investigation revealed that the vehicles had no links to kidnappers or any criminal activity. The owners later appeared and properly identified themselves, explaining that the cars were parked at the location for personal reasons”
The Chairman commended the swift response, vigilance and professionalism of the security agencies and local hunters who intervened to ensure the safety of residents of the community. He also appreciated the Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sunday Awe Akingbade for his guidance during the incident.
Hon. Oniyelu urged residents of Ilupeju-Ekiti and neighbouring communities to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear, saying security officials are at alert, cautioning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension.
He appealed to the public to always rely on credible sources for information, assuring that the council remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the area.
