Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has urged Chairmen of Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state to prioritize security and reinforce community-based strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property within their domains.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that effective grassroots security management is essential to sustaining peace and accelerating socio-economic development in the state. He noted that local governments, as the closest tier of government to the people, play a pivotal role in detecting and addressing threats before they escalate.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday during a strategic meeting with the Council Chairmen, the Governor underscored the primary duty of government at all levels: the protection of its citizens. The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo; Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Olabode Folorunso; Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Chief Alaba Abejide; Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd); Technical Adviser on Local Government Affairs, Mr. Bode Adetunji; and Director General of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Odo Omotosho.

Oyebanji called on the council chiefs to collaborate closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and security agencies to build integrated systems that can detect early warning signs and prevent security breaches. He further encouraged investments in intelligence gathering and additional support for security operatives to complement the state government’s ongoing efforts to maintain Ekiti’s reputation as the safest state in the country.
Beyond security, the Governor charged the chairmen to prioritize the welfare of their people for enhanced service delivery. He explained that placing citizens at the centre of governance strengthens public trust, deepens community engagement, and ensures that development initiatives make real, measurable impact.
Reiterating his stance on accountability and transparency, Governor Oyebanji cautioned against misuse or mismanagement of public resources. He stressed that funds earmarked for development must be applied judiciously in the interest of the people. He assured that his administration would continue to support local councils in delivering efficient, progressive, and impactful governance.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace and pledged continued provision of policy support and resources to ensure that every community in Ekiti remains safe, peaceful, and conducive for development.
