The Ekiti State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen who attacked a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, killing a pastor and abducting some worshippers.
Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed security operatives to track down those responsible.
According to the command, the attack occurred on Monday, April 28, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. while members of the church were holding an all-night prayer session on the outskirts of the town.
Preliminary findings revealed that about five armed men invaded the prayer ground, fatally shot the pastor and whisked away an unspecified number of worshippers.
The police said a joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Agro Marshal, local vigilantes and hunters had commenced aggressive bush-combing operations to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the attackers.
The Commissioner of Police appealed for calm, assuring residents that necessary measures were being taken to restore security and prevent a recurrence.
He also urged members of the public, especially religious leaders, to comply with the state government’s directive requiring security agencies to be informed before holding late-night gatherings, to enable adequate protection.
The command further advised residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the police and other security agencies.
