Bishop Oluwaseun Fagbohun has unveiled a humanitarian “Food Bank” initiative in Ado Ekiti, describing it as a strategic response to rising hunger and a platform to encourage responsible voting ahead of the state’s forthcoming election.
The cleric launched the initiative during a press conference at the Terminal Bus area in Ado Ekiti under the platform of The Righteous Movement, popularly known as TRIPOM. He explained that the project is designed as both an intervention and advocacy centre to address pressing social and moral challenges confronting residents.
Fagbohun clarified that the Food Bank goes beyond the conventional distribution of food items, noting that it functions as a “solution centre” where individuals can access a wide range of support services, including counselling, scholarships, spiritual guidance, and financial assistance.
According to him, the concept of “food” within the programme is symbolic, representing any form of help required by beneficiaries. He explained that while some individuals may need physical nourishment, others may require educational support, healthcare assistance, or empowerment opportunities.
“The idea is to meet people at their point of need. Food, in this context, is not limited to what we eat; it represents every form of support necessary for human dignity and stability,” he said.
The bishop added that the “bank” model allows for a structured system where individuals can both give and receive support, ensuring sustainability. He emphasized that all assistance would be processed through proper registration and guided by strict procedures to guarantee that only genuine cases benefit from the initiative.
Fagboun disclosed that the programme is supported by the Old Catholic International Missionary Society of St. Christopher and the Caritas Sustainable Development Foundation, alongside other partners, with plans underway to expand operations across all local government areas in Ekiti State and beyond, including the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Benue states.
He further revealed that the centre would incorporate additional services such as microfinance support, healthcare assistance, and marital counselling, all aimed at improving the overall well-being and stability of beneficiaries.
Addressing the political context, the cleric said TRIPOM is committed to promoting righteousness among citizens, particularly during elections. He argued that hunger often drives poor decision-making, stressing that addressing basic needs is essential to fostering responsible civic participation.
With less than two months to the election, Fagboun urged residents to make informed choices and called on media organisations to amplify the message of the movement. He maintained that the initiative stands ready to support vulnerable individuals while advocating for a morally conscious and responsible society.
