The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Ado/Irepodun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency I was on Saturday marred by allegations of intimidation, violence and disruption in parts of Ado-Ekiti, as one of the aspirants, Dr. Yemi Olayinka, accused supporters of the incumbent lawmaker, Steve Fatoba, of orchestrating attacks on his supporters
Despite the tension, Fatoba, who is seeking a third term in the House of Representatives, emerged victorious in Ward 8 with 362 votes, defeating Olayinka who polled 57 votes.The result was announced by the APC Returning Officer for Ward 8, Prince Ademola Adetola.
Speaking after the exercise, Olayinka alleged that his supporters were subjected to threats and intimidation before and during the primary election.
According to him, some of his followers were allegedly warned against attending the exercise, with threats of violence if they refused to support the incumbent lawmaker.
“What we have done today is that we have been able to defeat unnecessary and undue intimidation by the authority of the state,” Olayinka said.
“We belong to this place. I’m a member of this ward. I grew up here. This is my school area in Ado-Ekiti, so nobody can intimidate us.
“They even told our followers not to come, that they would beat us and shoot us. I told them whoever wants to shoot me should come over. By merely coming out for this election, we have defeated them,” he added.
Also, speaking,some of the supporters of Dr Olayinka applauded his determination to safe the constituency from poor representation, saying his involvement in the exercise will yield positive results in the next political dispensation. They added that he had been supportive of the party and impacting lives of residents of the federal constituency. 


The situation reportedly escalated at Pavilion in Ward 10, where the primary election was disrupted following a clash between supporters of rival aspirants.
Party members alleged that some individuals loyal to Fatoba attempted to force voters to queue behind the incumbent in line with what they described as a “state directive.”
However, when some members reportedly resisted the move, hoodlums allegedly invaded the venue wielding guns,charms and cains, leading to chaos as three members sustained injurie and were rushed to ADETOYIN Hospital , Ado Ekiti.
The fracas occured in the presence of Security operatives, including policemen, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel and officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) deployed to maintain law and order
Earlier, Fatoba had described his victory and the turnout of supporters at Ward 8 and 10 as evidence of his popularity and acceptance among party members in the constituency.
