Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and assault of the Chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rufus Ige Olorunfemi, and another resident, Mr. Funso Ajayi.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The police disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, three Hilux vehicles conveying armed men dressed in camouflage uniforms allegedly intercepted the LCDA chairman and Ajayi along Anoye Street in Ikere-Ekiti.
The victims were reportedly whisked away to the residence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the June 20 election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, where they were allegedly assaulted before being released.
The Command confirmed that three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other individuals said to be involved in the alleged crime. “The suspects will be charged to court immediately after investigations are concluded,” the statement said.
While calling for calm among residents, CP Falade assured the public that the Command would leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice is served.
The Commissioner also warned citizens, particularly political party supporters, against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in acts capable of inciting violence.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, upholding the rule of law, ensuring fairness and justice, and protecting the rights of all citizens.
