A candidate shortlisted for the position of Registrar at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Solomon Oluwasola Afolabi, has died after reportedly collapsed during an aptitude test conducted by the institution.
Dr. Afolabi, a Deputy Registrar at the university, was said to have suddenly shouted and slumped while participating in the exercise held as part of the selection process for the vacant registrar position.
He was immediately rushed to the university’s Health Centre for medical attention but was later confirmed dead. His remains have since been deposited at a morgue.
The deceased was one of the three candidates shortlisted for the position. The other contenders are Dr. Babatola J.E.T. and Mrs. Adeojo R.T.B.
The appointment of a substantive Registrar is the statutory responsibility of the university’s Governing Council, which is headed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council.
As of the time of filing this report, the university management had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The sudden death of Dr. Afolabi has thrown the university community into mourning.
