The Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, has urged its newly admitted students to remain focused, disciplined and purpose-driven as it officially matriculated 345 students for the 2025/2026 academic session during its second matriculation ceremony.
The ceremony, held at the college auditorium, brought together members of the institution’s management, parents, deans of various schools and other stakeholders to formally admit the students into the academic community.
Addressing the matriculating students, the Acting Provost and College Librarian, Dr. Abdulmumin Isah, described the occasion as a day of academic commitment and a significant milestone in the students’ educational journey.
He reminded the students that gaining admission into the institution was not their final destination but the beginning of a journey towards achieving their dreams and aspirations. He urged them to make good use of the opportunities before them and turn obstacles into stepping stones for success.
Dr. Isah highlighted the Federal Government’s dual mandate policy, which allows colleges of education to offer both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and bachelor’s degree programmes. He explained that students can now obtain their NCE and proceed to earn a degree within the same institution, reducing the need to seek admission elsewhere.
He advised the students to be purposeful, value their time, uphold integrity, embrace technology and continue learning beyond the classroom. He also warned them against keeping bad company, stressing that negative influences could derail their academic goals.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the ceremony, Dr. Isah encouraged the students to pursue their studies with determination and maintain good character throughout their stay in the institution. He urged them to always remember the sacrifices made by their parents and strive to graduate with outstanding results.
Also speaking, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr. Ganiyu Ishola, commended the management for the rapid growth of the institution since its establishment in 2023. He described the college as one of the fastest-growing federal colleges of education in the country and encouraged the students to remain disciplined and take advantage of the NCE-to-degree opportunity. The matriculation oath was administered by Dr. Khadijah Wuraola Graba before the Acting Provost formally declared the ceremony closed.
