The 1979 set of Obalatan Commercial Grammar School, Ilupeju-Ekiti, will on Thursday, September 17, 2026, commence the free distribution of school uniforms to students admitted into Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
In a statement signed by Mr Sola Ogunmiluyi, retired Permanent secretary and Chairman, 1979 Set.made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, said the initiative was designed to encourage academic excellence, promote school enrolment and reduce the financial burden of parents, particularly those struggling with the rising cost of educating their children. Mr Ogunmiluyi noted that access to a decent school uniform would also help new students begin their academic journey with confidence and a stronger sense of belonging.
The chairman stressed that quality education should not be left entirely to the government, noting that although government was making efforts in the education sector, individuals, alumni associations, community groups and corporate organisations also had important roles to play in supporting schools and improving learning.

According to the statement, the gesture would contribute to increasing enrolment at Obalatan Commercial Grammar School while ensuring that beneficiaries are properly prepared for academic activities and promote equality among students,

The flag-off ceremony will be held at the school premises by 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, with the Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty Oba Sunday Awe David Akingbade I, and other eminent personalities expected to attend. Several members of the 1979 set who have distinguished themselves in their various careers will carry out the distribution.
