Comrade Law Ibitoye has emerged as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Online Chapel, Ekiti State Council, following an election held on Monday at the NUJ Press Centre in Ado-Ekiti.
Ibitoye emerged alongside other members of the new executive, including Comrade Ademola Atobaba as Vice Chairman and Pastor Dare Daniel as Secretary. In his acceptance speech, the new chairman pledged to prioritise members’ welfare, professional development and capacity building through regular training and other initiatives.
He said his administration would organise regular training programmes to equip members with the skills required to adapt to emerging trends in journalism and the rapidly evolving digital media environment. Ibitoye stressed that leadership should be about creating opportunities for members and improving their professional growth and welfare, rather than merely occupying positions.
The chairman stressed that his administration would continually mirror the society by educating, enlightening and setting agenda for the masses.
The election followed the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Chairman, Mr Abere, who led the chapel under both the federated and Online Chapel arrangements. Abere appreciated members for their support and cooperation during his tenure and urged them to extend the same support to the new administration for the continued progress of the chapel.
The electoral process also featured Mr Emmanuel Adeniran, who obtained a nomination form to contest the chairmanship but later declined to submit it and withdrew from the race, paving the way for the affirmation of Ibitoye as chairman.
The NUJ Chairman, Mr Kayode Babatuyi, subsequently administered the oath of office to the new executives and urged them to carry members along and work for the progress of the chapel.
Ibitoye, while urging members to tap into the wealth of experience of veteran journalists and council leaders, pledged to promote consultation, honesty, cooperation and collective responsibility, noting that online journalism has become a significant platform for information dissemination.
