The Ekiti State Government has inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the Okada Riders Association, Ekiti State Chapter, with a charge to promote peace, unity and cooperation among commercial motorcycle operators across the state.
The government gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony held in Ado-Ekiti on Friday where the new committee members formally assumed responsibility.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kehinde Ajobiewe, urged the riders to cooperate with his administration in maintaining law and order, appealed to aggrieved members of the association to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution assuring that his administration would continue to provide an enabling environment for unions and associations to operate effectively and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
The governor charged the new caretaker committee, led by Mr Kunle Asaolu, to operate with transparency, fairness and responsibility, while protecting the interests of members and the general public.
In his acceptance speech, Asaolu thanked the government for its support and pledged the loyalty of the committee to the Oyebanji administration, promising to promote peace and unity among Okada riders. Other members of the committee are Gbenga Alade, Secretary; Olowuro Sunday, Saka Salami, Ajibade Ojo, Ademola Omotuyi, Ayodeji Jegede, Lukman Saka, Joseph Emmanuel, Oloruntola Idowu and Agboola Emmanuel.
The inauguration followed the dissolution of the former executive by the state government after protests by some members, with the new committee expected to restore stability and unity within the association.
