The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has received with deep sorrow the news of the death of Mr Olabisi Oluwasona, a distinguished journalist and Director of Quality Assurance at the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES).
A statement co-signed by the chairman, Kayode Babatuyi and the Secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin described Oluwasona as a committed professional whose years of dedicated service to journalism and broadcasting.
The Union said the deceased undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the media landscape in Ekiti State as a former Chairman of the BSES Chapel of NUJ and a journalist who distinguished himself through dedication, professionalism, humility and an unwavering commitment to the ideals of responsible journalism.
The umbrella body for journalists noted that Oluwasona’s impact on journalism and the lives he touched through his professional and personal engagements is indelible.
It noted that though he would be sorely missed, his legacy of service and commitment to the profession will continue to live on.
“Oluwasona’s death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family, colleagues and friends, but also to the journalism profession and the entire media community in the state. His contributions to the growth of journalism, particularly through his service at BSES and his leadership at the Chapel level, will remain part of the history and collective memory of the Union.”
“The Council extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of BSES, his colleagues and the entire journalism community. At this difficult moment, the Union stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and prays for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, the Union said.
