Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has commended the Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), Mr. Olaniran Olatona, for his contributions to the improvement of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
The Governor, who gave the commendation in Ado Ekiti during Treasury Board meeting on Monday, October 5, 2026, acknowledged the efforts of the EKIRS leadership in strengthening the state’s revenue system and improving the collection of IGR.
Governor Oyebanji said the improvement in IGR was important to the implementation of government programmes and policies, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare and other sectors that directly affect the people.
He noted that effective revenue generation would reduce the State’s dependence on federal allocations and provide the government with greater capacity to finance developmental projects and meet its obligations.
The Governor also praised the EKIRS chairman and his team for their commitment to reforms aimed at making the revenue system more efficient, transparent and responsive to taxpayers.
Governor Oyebanji urged the agency to sustain the momentum and continue to explore legitimate avenues for expanding the state’s revenue base, while ensuring that taxpayers are treated fairly and encouraged to fulfil their civic responsibilities.
The Governor assured that his administration would continue to support initiatives designed to strengthen the state’s financial position, stressing that improved IGR remains critical to achieving the government’s development agenda and delivering greater prosperity to the people of Ekiti State.
