The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the Display of Preliminary Register of Voters (PRV), hearing of claims and objections, as well as the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in Ekiti State.
The Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Bunmi Omosehindemi, disclosed this during the official flag-off and stakeholder engagement held at the INEC State Office in Ado-Ekiti. He said the exercise would commence on Friday, October 9, 2026, and end on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Omosehindemi, represented by the Head of Electoral Operations, Dr Rahmon Badru, said the exercise was crucial to strengthening the credibility of the electoral process, stressing that an accurate voter register remained a major foundation for credible elections. He explained that the public display would enable eligible voters to verify their details and raise claims or objections over omissions, errors, underage registration, deceased persons, non-citizens and duplicate registrations.
The REC said INEC had commenced preparations for the exercise, noting that training of Local Government Training Officers (LGTOs) began at the state office on Saturday, October 3, while other personnel were undergoing training across the 16 local government areas of the state. He charged officials to discharge their responsibilities with impartiality, transparency, integrity and fairness, while ensuring that vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, nursing mothers and persons with disabilities, received appropriate assistance.
He further warned INEC personnel against negligence, absenteeism, political bias, favouritism and any act capable of undermining public confidence in the Commission. According to him, the PRV would be displayed at designated Registration Areas and LGA headquarters for public scrutiny, while citizens would have the opportunity to verify their names, photographs, biometrics and other personal information and make necessary claims or objections.
Also speaking, the Head of General Administration, Alhaji Tiamiyu Arowolo, and the Head of ICT/VR, Mrs Titilayo Oderinde, provided further perspectives on the exercise. INEC urged eligible voters and other stakeholders in the state to participate actively in the process, describing the exercise as a collective responsibility towards ensuring a clean, accurate and credible voters’ register ahead of future elections.
The Ekiti State Director General National Orientation Agency, (NOA,) Mrs OluwaKemi Akomolede commended INEC for the initiative, saying it would allow them to update their records and allay fears of masses with issues from being disenfranchised.
