The governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has called on the federal government to urgently rijig the security architecture of the country. Saying “We have failed to protect these people we are burring today”
The governor made the call at the funeral of 22 victims of Saint Francis Catholic Church , Owo, Ondo State on 5th June , 2022.
Governor Akeredolu and his wife, chief Betty Akeredolu Anyanwu betrayed emotion as they wept profusely at the Mydas Resort and Hotel Owo, the venue of the mass. Governor Akeredolu opined “We have failed to defend these people not because we have not tried but because these forces on the other side are evil and they have supports. They will not triumph over us”
Arakunrin Akeredolu condemned the dastard activities of the perpetrators who murdered 40 people in the church. Assuring that they would be arrested.22 of the victims were buried today while 18 had since been buried by their relatives.
While given his sermon, the Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Dr. Jude Arogundade commended the bravery of governor Akeredolu for protecting his people. “The Bishop retorted ” You are a strong soldier who was desirous of protecting your people”
The venue of the burial was filled to capacity. Among the dignitaries that attended the burial service were: Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly , Rt.Hon. David Bamidele, Oleyelogun, Assembly members, and APC stalwarts.
