The Ekiti State governor-elect, Biodun Oyebanji and deputy governor-elect, Mrs Monisade Afuye, had received certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The INEC’s National Commissioner supervising Ekiti, Oyo and Lagos States, Mr. Sam Olumekun, presented the certificates to the duo at the state headquarters of the commission in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
The governor elect, Biodun Oyebanji while receiving his certificate in company of his deputy, promised to execute his six-point agenda for the progress and development of Ekiti state . He added that he would build on the good legacies of Governor Fayemi.
Oyebanji could not hide his joy while addressing party supporters and well wishers for their concerted efforts, trust and prayers that transcended to his victory at the poll. He attributed his victory to Almighty God and the good people of Ekiti state who overwhelmingly gave him 187057 votes to defeat Engineer Segun Oni who polled 82211 and other contestants.
The governor -elect thanked all stakeholders for the smooth conduct of the election which was devoid of the usual crises in past years.
Earlier, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ekiti State, Dr. Adeniran Tella had solicited the cooperation of all stakeholders to further democratise electioneering process in Nigeria.Dr. Tella stressed that presentation of certificate was in line with 72(1) of the Act, 2022 which stipulated that within 14 days Certificate should be issued to governor elect and his deputy.
The venue of the programme was filled to brim as eminent personalities , traditional rulers, government functionaries, political stalwarts, supporters, families and admirers of the governor elect and his deputy were on ground to grace the occasion.
