As Ekiti NUJ election draws closer,
the chairmanship candidate, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi has promised to put in place an utral modern Press Center and prioritize welfare of Ekiti state Journalists.
Adding that training and organizing workshops for journalists in the state regularly shall be given attention for efficiency. Babatuyi disclosed this while canvassing for votes on Wednesday at Information and Online Chapels.
The chairmanship candidate, who promised to consolidate on the numerous achievements of the outgoing executive led by Lion Rotimi Ojomoyela, highlighted some of the achievements to include: Recognized and respected NUJ, Welfare of Ekiti journalists were adequately catered for, training and workshops, many casual journalists were fully employed, completion of three class rooms for International Institute of Journalism(IIJ) Ekiti Centre, acquiring land and C of O for proposed Utral Modern Ekiti NUJ centre, ensuring a professional journalist head state owned radio and Television station among others.
Babatuyi who hinted that most of the achievements were recorded based on the integrity and pragmatism of the outgoing chairman. While promising that his team would not trade the union for anything but lift the flag higher.
The chairmanship candidate who bemoaned quackry in the pen profession, promised to tackle it headlong and flush out fake journalists in the state. He said
“I will strengthen the capacity of NUJ that both pen professionals and Ekiti residents will be proud of”
Responding, Mr Femi Bamisaye, Director of Press, Office of the Head of Service charged the aspirants to work with government and ensure more opportunities are accorded information officers to be at par with other ministries. He stressed that there are ministries that journalists/ information officers are supposed to be the Director for excellent performance .
He further enjoined the aspirants to carry everybody along in the activities of the union while pledging the cooperation of Information chapel to the incoming executive.
Also, the Director of Information Service, Mr Tope Babalola enjoined the aspirants to be open, transparent, love all members and consolidate on the succesees of the outgoing executive. Mr Babalola commended Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela’s administration for giving the union recognition and laudable achievements. He attributed the achievements to unity among the executives while charging the incoming leaderships of the union to give maximum cooperation to the chairmanship candidate, Kayode Babatuyi.
In the same vein, the chairman of Online Chapel, Mr Abere Ayodele promised unalloyed support of his members to the incoming executive while Mr Emmanuel Onwosoro eulogized the astudnes of the outgoing Chairman, Rotimi Ojomoyela and Kayode Babatuyi for repositioning the union to the admiration of not only Ekiti journalists but government and outsiders. He however charged the incoming executive to raise the bar of performance.
