In a bid to frontally tackle food shortage and drought throughout the year, Ekiti State Commissioner for Agric and Food Security, Hon. Boluwade Ebenezer has called on beneficiaries of free SF2 Solar Irrigation Pumps distributed to Fadama Farmers by the Ekiti State Government to make good use of the facilities to tackle drought militating against all – year agricultural production.
Hon. Boluwade said the intension of the Ekiti State Government is to ensure food sufficiency and put an end to high cost of food in the State.
He added that the free distribution of Solar Irrigation Pumps to farmers is part of the resolves of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to ensure that Ekiti citizens have an abundance of food all year round and make sure Ekiti State takes it’s place in agricultural production in Nigeria.
He charged farmers to increase their production as the State Government will be ready to support them.
The Permanent Secretary of Agric. and Food Security, Engr. Gbenga Odesanmi called on the benefiting farmers to take good care of the pumps given to them and that they should protect it from thieves.
Earlier, the Ekiti State Fadama Project Coordinator, Mrs. Olayemi Yetunde Okunlola appreciated the efforts of the State Governor, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his support for Ekiti State Farmers, according to her, under FADAMA CARES project, more than 9,000 farmers have benefited directly in the free inputs and Assets distribution to Ekiti State farmers.
She added that the State Government has upgraded about 12 markets with modern toilets powered by solar borehole and rehabilitated over 58km farm roads under the FADAMA CARES programme.
The Farmers that benefited from the State Government gesture of free Solar Irrigation pumps were full of appreciation and promised to make good use of the facilities.
