The president, National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Dr. Sofri Peterside has urged Nigeria Governors to emulate Biodun Oyebanji’s giant strides on health insurance and doctors salary structures.
Dr Sofri Peterside commended the Governor for being the first Governor to implement the new salary structure for doctors in Nigeria, even ahead of the federal government.
The president of the Association gave the charge and commendation on Friday at the 2024 National Executive Council meeting held in Ado-Ekiti with the theme: “Inclusive Insurance Coverage for the most vulnerable;The Nigerian perspective and a sub -theme titled;Workplace Violence Against Doctors and Other Healthcare Workers : Understanding,Preventing and Solving the challenges and issues.
He added that Oyebanji’s support in health sector has made life easy for the vulnerables and the masses, saying, “Health insurance is a must in the State.
Responding, Oyebanji, represented by commissioner for health, Dr Filani Oyebanji reiterated government commitment towards delivering good health care services to Ekiti people via Various schemes which includes; “Ilera Ekiti”.The commissioner said the scheme had benefited children less than five years, the elderlies, pregnant women and people with Disabilities.
He stressed that the thrust of the scheme was to among other things; reduce mortality rate in the state; to promote good living among Ekiti people, create enabling environment for Doctors and to discourage JAPA’S SYNDROME among doctors.
In his speech, the Ekiti state chairman of NAGGMDP, Dr Alo Akinleye also commended Oyebanji for raising the standard of health care delivery in Ekiti state. While assuring participants that the Association would continue to give quality health care services to the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria.
He stressed that the NEC would afford members opportunity to brainstorm, learn from one another and forge new Partnerships and friendships.
On his part, the NMA Chairman in Ekiti state, Dr Babatunde Rosiji hailed the association for bringing the NEC meeting to Ekiti state and urged his members across Nigeria to maintain peace with their working Environments. While pledging to look into challenges bedeviling People living with Disabilities in the State.
The Programme featured discussion panel with People with Disabilities to proffering solutions to their medical challenges.
Dignitaries at the event includes, Onitaji of Itaji Ekiti, Oba Idowu Adamon Babalola, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, Government functionaries among others.
