The chairman of Moba Local Government in Ekiti State, Hon. Bamidele Fadugba, has called for restraint and advised Ekiti residents against participating in a proposed nationwide protest.
Speaking at the local government headquarters, Hon. Fadugba pointed out the potential negative implications of such actions on the state’s economy and overall welfare of the nation.
He expressed concerns about the economic fallout that could result from widespread demonstrations, saying while citizens need to voice their concerns and exercise their rights, it is equally crucial to consider the broader impact of the actions.
Hon. Fadugba noted that protests, especially on a large scale, could be hijacked by unscrupulous elements to disrupt daily activities and harm local businesses.
“Our economy is fragile, and we cannot afford further disruptions. The road to recovery from past challenges has been long and arduous, and we must protect the progress we have made,” he explained.
The chairman also emphasized the potential for increased tension and security challenges, affirming that public demonstrations can sometimes escalate beyond control, leading to violence and destruction which not only endangers lives but also puts a strain on the law enforcement agencies.
Hon. Fadugba stressed the importance of the people of Ekiti not participating in the protest to avoid affecting Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s ongoing developmental plans for the state.
The chairman remarked that Governor Oyebanji has initiated several developmental projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare systems, adding that participating in the protest could stall the vital projects and set back the state’s progress.
Emphasising the importance of dialogue, Hon. Fadugba urged citizens to seek alternative means of addressing their grievances, noting that constructive dialogue and engagement with relevant authorities can yield better results without jeopardizing collective well-being.
Hon. Fadugba reassured the people of Moba Local Government that their concerns are being heard and that the local government is committed to addressing issues affecting the community.
He called for patience and cooperation, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved through peaceful and collaborative efforts.
The Moba Local Government boss reminded the people of the need to act responsibly and prioritize the nation’s welfare.
