The quarter-final build-up had been clouded by controversy, following Osimhen’s public on-field disagreement with teammates during the round of 16 and reports of unresolved bonus payment issues within the camp. However, the Super Eagles put distractions aside and produced a disciplined, dominant display, with both goals coming in the second half — each influenced by Osimhen.
After the break, Osimhen broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal before turning provider, setting up the second to seal the victory and underline his importance to the team.
Nigeria had earlier asserted control in the first half, enjoying overwhelming possession and completing more than twice as many passes as Algeria. The Super Eagles repeatedly tested the Algerian goalkeeper while keeping the North Africans at bay, as Stanley Nwabali remained largely untroubled throughout the contest.
The result confirms Nigeria’s growing momentum in the tournament and sends the Super Eagles into the AFCON ’25 semi-finals with renewed confidence and unity.
