The Ekiti State Chapter of Afenifere, under the leadership of its Chairman, Elder Jonathan Yemi Alade, and Secretary, Chief Mrs. Ronke Okusanya, has dissociated itself from a group claiming leadership and membership of the association.
The group, allegedly led by one Olayemi Olajuyinmi, has been parading itself as Afenifere leaders in Ekiti State. The Afenifere leadership described the claims as false and misleading, stressing that the individuals involved are not members of the organisation and lack the authority to speak on its behalf.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Chief Biodun Akin-Fasae, the Chapter categorically stated that the group is unknown to Afenifere Ekiti State Chapter and does not appear in its official register of members.
According to the statement, the actions of the group amount to a deliberate attempt to hijack the name and reputation of Afenifere for selfish and pecuniary interests, describing them as political opportunists with no legitimate standing in the organisation.
Chief Akin-Fasae further reaffirmed that Afenifere Ekiti State Chapter remains firmly rooted in its philosophy and guiding principles, noting that the Chapter is aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and unequivocally supports the candidacy of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
The statement clarified that the Chapter has no affiliation whatsoever with any other political party, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which it alleged the impostor group is using as a platform to propagate its claims.
The public was therefore urged to disregard the statements and activities of the said group, as Afenifere Ekiti State Chapter will not be distracted by what it described as the antics of political opportunists.
The Chapter concluded by assuring the public of its continued commitment to its ideals and values, stressing that it will not compromise its integrity under any circumstances.
