The Ekiti State Government has announced plans to award contracts for the construction of 15 new rural roads across the state under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), as part of efforts to strengthen food security and boost agricultural productivity.
The Project Coordinator of Ekiti RAAMP, Hon. Sunday Adunmo, revealed this while speaking on a radio programme in Ado-Ekiti recently. He explained that preparations are in top gear to commence the new projects, noting that the initiative aligns with the administration’s strategic priority of improving farmers’ access to markets and enhancing the agricultural value chain.
Adunmo disclosed that the government is working toward completing 14 out of the 18 existing rural road projects before February 2026. He listed some of the new roads to be awarded as:
Ikere–Ijare Road
Alajo–Itawure Road
Odo Ayedun–Ipao Road
Omu–Itapaji Road
Ogotun–Ipole Road
Ayebode–Eda Ile Road
Aramoko–Ile Ona Road
Isan–Ipere Road, among others.
He emphasized that Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration has demonstrated strong commitment to agricultural development by significantly raising the state’s budgetary allocation to the sector by nearly 400%.
According to the Project Coordinator, the provision of rural access roads will not only aid food production and supply but will also enhance security, especially in border communities where farmers face challenges transporting produce.
Adunmo also revealed plans to upgrade five of the six demonstration earth roads earlier constructed under former Governor Kayode Fayemi to asphalt surfaces. These include:
Ago Aduloju–Kajola Road
Imesi–Kosomolate–Ipole Road
Ogotun–Alagbede Road
Itaji–Orisunmibare Road
Iyin–Odooro–Aroto Road
He noted that the interconnectivity of roads such as Ogotun–Alagbede and Ogotun–Ipole will stimulate rural economic growth, reduce travel time for farmers, and facilitate easier movement of goods to urban markets.
Providing updates on the ongoing 18 road projects, Adunmo confirmed that two have been fully completed, while others are advancing steadily. He added that asphalting of the Ara–Ekameta Road, which links the Ijero–Epe–Araromi–Iporora corridor, will commence on Thursday.
The Project Coordinator commended Governor Oyebanji for sustaining the RAAMP initiative and urged residents to continue supporting the administration’s transformative agenda.
He noted that the significant progress recorded in rural infrastructure development is a strong indication that Governor Oyebanji’s vision-driven leadership deserves continuity to ensure completion of life-changing projects already underway.
