Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, have appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring that ongoing reforms will yield long-term prosperity despite current hardship.
Speaking at the Second Plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio likened Nigeria’s rebuilding process to constructing a cathedral, stressing that it requires time, sacrifice, and resilience. He urged citizens not to lose hope, but to believe in a brighter future.
Representing President Tinubu at the event, Akume said the government is committed to stabilising the economy, attracting investment, and cushioning the impact of reforms through social programmes. He called on the Church to continue supporting national development efforts.
Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, praised the Catholic Church for its global role in promoting justice and democracy, while highlighting his state’s poverty-alleviation initiatives.
The plenary, attended by Catholic bishops, Papal representative Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, federal lawmakers, and state officials, provided a platform for leaders to seek the Church’s support in navigating Nigeria’s toughest economic transition in decades.
