The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken sweeping decisions affecting two states, as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the party ahead of upcoming elections.
Rising from its 179th meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the NWC announced the dissolution of the Enugu State Executive Committee of the party over what it described as “unresolved leadership crises and lingering factional rivalry” that have continued to weaken the party’s structure in the state.
In a related development, the APC also disqualified two governorship aspirants from participating in the forthcoming Ekiti State off-cycle governorship election, namely Engineer Kayode Ojo and Dr. Olajumoke Abimbola.
Although the NWC did not give detailed reasons for the disqualification, party sources hinted that the decision followed the screening committee’s report which raised concerns about “compliance with party guidelines and other constitutional provisions.”
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Hon. Duro Meseko, said the party was also finalizing arrangements ahead of the planned defection of the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
“The National Working Committee deliberated extensively on several issues affecting the party. The Enugu State Executive has been dissolved to pave way for unity and reorganization.
“In addition, the Committee reviewed the reports of the screening and appeal panels for the Ekiti governorship primaries and has taken necessary disciplinary decisions in line with the party’s constitution,” Meseko stated.
He added that the APC remains committed to internal democracy, fairness, and discipline among its members, assuring that ongoing reforms will strengthen the party’s presence across the country ahead of the 2026 general elections.
