The Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sunday Awe Akingbade has announced 5th and 6th July as ‘IJESU’ FESTIVAL.
In a brief Chat with Precise news on Saturday, Apeju said the festival will commence on Saturday, 6th July with the (‘Oloris’ )wives of the royal families will move round Menara market with yams on their heads in white attires. According to the monarch who values traditions, “The appearance of the Oloris in white attires dancing round the market signals that the king is set to eat yam”
The monarch stressed that Sunday, 6th July is the Crux of the festival where he will offer early morning prayers for all sons and daughters of Ilupeju Ekiti, home and in the diaspora at the market square ‘ idi ito’ with the Apeju- in -Council and other chiefs in attendance.
While calling on all sons and daughters of the town to be good ambassadors of Ilupeju Ekiti wherever they are, Oba Akingbade assured them of his continuous prayers for them . He added that after the festival, the following market days , traders are at liberty to bring yams to Menara market for sale.
