The Chairman of Ifeloju Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ilupeju Ekiti, Hon. Olusola Michael Oniyelu, has paid glowing tribute to fallen heroes from the LCDA who laid down their lives in defence of Nigeria, describing their sacrifices as the foundation of the nation’s peace, unity and freedom.
Hon. Oniyelu gave the commendation on Wednesday during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, marked annually on January 15, noting that the courage and selflessness of departed military personnel would remain indelible in the hearts of the people.
He said the occasion was not only a time to remember the fallen heroes, but also an opportunity to appreciate serving officers and men of the Armed Forces who continue to risk their lives to protect the country from internal and external threats.

“The sacrifices of our fallen heroes can never be forgotten. They paid the supreme price so that we can live in peace and safety. As a people, we must continue to honour their memories by supporting the families they left behind and by standing firmly with our serving military personnel,” the chairman stated.
Hon. Oniyelu reassured widows, children and relatives of fallen soldiers from Ifeloju LCDA of his administration’s continued support, pledging to work with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure their welfare and well-being are taken care of.
According to him, his administration remains committed to initiatives that will uplift the families of fallen heroes, including advocacy for social support, and community-based assistance.
He also commended serving military men and women from the LCDA for their patriotism, bravery and unwavering dedication to national service, especially when neighbouring states were faced with intense security challenge, urging them to remain steadfast and professional in the discharge of their duties.
“As a council, we are proud of you. We recognise your sacrifices and we stand with you. Our prayers are with you as you continue to defend our nation,” he added.
The chairman called on residents of Ifeloju LCDA to use the occasion to reflect on the values of patriotism, unity and selfless service, stressing that peace and development can only thrive when citizens support national institutions and live in harmony.
He urged Nigerians to continue praying for the Armed Forces, for lasting peace and security across the country.
