The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti Chapter, has commended senators representing Ekiti state in the national Assembly, specially applauded the Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, for his pivotal role in the ongoing expansion of the Ado–Ijan–Ikare Road, describing the project as a relief to the polytechnic community.
ASUP-FPA said the intervention, driven by the Federal Government with strong legislative backing from Ekiti State senators, reflects Senator Bamidele’s effective representation and responsiveness to constituents’ needs—particularly the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti axis, which endured years of neglect and deplorable road conditions.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Engr. Caleb Adeosun, and Publicity Secretary, Oyewale Oyelola, the union recalled how Senator Bamidele, the Senate Leader, personally engaged union leaders in March 2024 after protests over the road’s condition. According to ASUP-FPA, that engagement translated into action under the administration of Bola Tinubu, culminating in the current rehabilitation and expansion works.
“ASUP-FPA appreciates the concerted efforts of the Ekiti senators at the National Assembly who amplified our concerns,” the statement noted, singling out Senator Bamidele for his leadership, assurance, and follow-through. “This project underscores purposeful representation and a commitment to infrastructure that supports education and economic activity.”
While acknowledging the support of Senators Yemi Adaramodu and Cyril Fasuyi, the union emphasized Senator Bamidele’s coordinating role in ensuring federal attention to the road, urging continued oversight to guarantee quality delivery by the contractor.
ASUP-FPA also commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for constructing the Ijan-Afao-Iworoko ring road, which has eased traffic pressure and reduced travel time for staff and students. In addition, the union acknowledged the consistent palliative interventions of Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, describing his efforts as invaluable over the years.
The union added that the Ado–Ijan–Ikare Road expansion stands as a testament to effective collaboration between the executive and legislature—anchored by Senator Bamidele’s leadership—for sustainable development in Ekiti State.
