The Vice-Chancellor, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), Prof. Olufemi Victor Adeoluwa has said that availability of facilities, personnel and conducive environment for learning has made the Institution, the fastest growing University in Africa.
The Vice Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Prof. Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu, stated this in Agbado-Ekiti on Wednesday at the inaugural matriculation ceremony of BOUESTI part-time programmes, Agbado-Ekiti Study Centre for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Seventy five students were matriculated and registered into various Degree programmes in the Directorate of Part-Time Programmes of the University for the Agbado-Ekiti Study Centre.
According to the V.C, the institution places premium in ensuring that its part-time study centres have the available facilities and personnel before establishment.
His words: “We have looked around and seen the readiness of the community because BOUESTI is the fastest growing State University in Africa. We really took our time before we decided to have this.
“We looked at the availability of the programme and facilities on ground is enough to have a branch. Without the facilities and personnel, there can’t be a University.
“Whatever treatment we give to our students in the main campus is what we are going to give to them. It’s the same standard and Senate that will approve their results. My charge to the students is to do well and come around to the main campus because we have the facilities.”
Also, HRM Oba Adesina Samuel Obafemi, thanked the University for the opportunity to establish the study centre in his community and that they will provide support for more developments in the area.
“The whole community is happy because this is the beginning of development and opportunity for sons and daughters of Agbado-Ekiti to have more motivation because some are farmers, who may not have the opportunity to achieve their dreams. The multiplier effect is that the community will continue to grow and expand.
“The community will support the establishment of schools by providing lands, security and whatever they want to use for their school that is in our capacity. We are still expecting more developments in the area of education, health and industry. I believe they are coming and they will still come here.”
In the same vein, Chairman, Agbado-Ekiti Elites Forum, Prof. Ademilua Lawrence said the establishment of the study centre will enhance the economic and social life of the community.
While expressing joy for being the first-ever University Study Centre in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the Professor in the Department of Geology at Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti said he envisaged the study centre to become a full-fledged university in the future.
Some of the matriculants expressed joy for the opportunity, promised to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institution as they
progress in their studies.
